Field is too large (32k) or View's column & selection formulas are too large >> New Copy

Hello Experts,
I would like to get help in my error message below while doing the New Copy option in our Lotus Notes 9.0.1Social Edition user laptop. I've already check the ACL and I have the correct access rights.

Thank you so much in advance!

Hi,

It has nothing to do with the ACL. While Notes tries to copy the database, it encounters some document that somehow presents a problem, in this case it says that a field in a document or in a view is too long. This might be caused by a corrupted document or view, so you could try with a Fixup up of the database. Make sure you make a backup copy of the database before doing any operation on it that might destroy data.

And did you see this page: https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1LO64981 ?

If the data isn't interesting, you can also make a new copy of the design only, i.e. without the data.

I am not sure if this will apply exactly to your case but I did have an experience recently where the overall Summary size of a document exceeded the grand total of 64k allowed per document. Summary data is the data used by Notes for displaying in a view. In this case, there was *no one field* that exceeded the 32k limit. It was that the total of *all* summary data in the entire document exceeded the allowed maximum of 64k (but, the same 32k limit error that you have seen is the one shown for this issue too).

The solution? If you are on IBM Domino 9.0.1FP8 or higher you can now apply a fix to the entire database that will increase this maximum to 16MB (as opposed to 64k!).

You can find instructions here for making this change to the database:
