Did you download the installer and install the new client ?

What is the esxi host version?
it gives me an error when i tired to install the installer, i put that in a screen shot as well
@ Murali Sripada
it is 3.5.0
when you state you can connect via a web browser, can you manage the host and VMs ?

or does it just show a web page ?

Are you sure 3.5, because 3.5 used a different client?

can you get to the console of the server, and look at the monitor ?

or connect remotely via SSH ?
3.5 is esx.. Is it connected to vcenter or just a standalone host? I do not see error screenshot here.. What is the error.. May be it is not compatible with latest os, do you have an old vm like Windows 7 or xp which you can try or old servers (not production)
it shows me a webpage.
Vmware-3.png
it is standalone. I am accessing through my windows 7 machine and it always worked earlier, now the problem seems like one of the virtual server insalled on this host acts like a DHCP and DNS server and i need to turn the VM on but i cant connect the the host server to get the admin controls.
Do you have ssh enabled for the esxi?
how do I check that?
do you have access to the physical server console ?
Do you use this Windows 7 machine to manage any other VMware Hosts, because the software you have started there is for a much later versions of ESXi.

The software you should be using is called the VMware Infrastructure Client (VIC).

The VMware vSphere Client is used for later version of the software.

Is it possible, you've installed new software or use to connect to newer server, and clicking the wrong icon ?
no, we have only 1 host server and it is the same version from last 7 years. Never had any issues. I think one of the domain controller is installed as VM on the host server which also act like a DHCP and DNS, that is not booting right now, we have another separate physical domain controller which is working fine, not sure if this is related to this or not.
I'm really referring to the software on your workstation ?

The VMware vSphere Client will never connect to ESXi 3i

it's the wrong client!

Can you check the VMware folder ? in startup ?

this is what the client looks like...

Somebody has not installed any new software on your Windows PC ?
i sware i have using the vsphere client but i did check the folder under startup and it has only 2 options under vmware
Vshphere Client and Vshpere host update utility.

When i try to install the VMware infrastructure client from the host web browser it gives me tUser generated imagehis error as attached in the file
this is the web browser from where i tired to install the infrastructureUser generated image client
so I am thinking some settings got changed on the host server or there is something wrong to the host server, I already tried restarting  it few times as well but no luck
can you tell us what is on the screen of the physical server ?

and you know, this is not a current or supported VMware Hypervisor, and was End of Life - Many years ago ?

What VM operating systems do you have running ?
I am able to log in to the physical host and go to all the settings, like reset management agents or reset management networks. we have only 5 computers on the domain so never thought to upgrade it as I know very little about VmWare.
ESX Server 3i 3.5.0
yeah, they all are 7 to 8 years old VM, my problem is not able to install the infrastructure client or being able to connect to the host remotely.
Okay, the issue you are experiencing is the  VMware Infrastructure Client files are missing or corrupted on your Windows PC.

When you use the VMware vSphere Client (new version, and really no need to have installed on your PC for ESXi 3.5), it actually loads the VMware Infrastructure Client DLLs to communicate with the ESXi 3.5 server.

If it does not load the VMware Infrastructure Client DLLs it prompts you to download the VMware Infrastructure Client from the ESXi 3.5 server.

In your case the VMware Infrastructure Client files are missing from your 3.5 server.

You will need to either search the internet for the VMware Infrastructure Client or if you have the ISO media, install a new server, in VMware Workstation and download the files.

Myself or any other Experts Exchange member is not authorised to send you those client files.
so is there any workaround for this?
yes but how?  I read the article that you can only install that from the host server, not through an online site.
I think I may have it, where do I put the media, how to use the media?
Build a new temporary ESXi 3.5.0 server using VMware Workstation, and download the client from the temp ESXi 3.5.0 server.
on your host, login to the console, and check the following locations...

/usr/lib/vmware/hostd/docroot/client

this is where the VMware-viclient.exe is stored.
can you give me the exact command to run?
and i also do not see the command prompt there, its gui
Okay, I have found the client for you....

Download this ISO

https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=ESXI350-JUNE2011ROLLUP1&productId=20&rPId=3513

and then using Z-zip, explore the iso...

VMware-VMvisor-InstallerCD-3.5.0-391406.i386.iso\install.tgz\install.tar\usr\lib\vmware\installer\VMware-VMvisor-big-3.5.0-391406.i386.dd.bz2\VMware-VMvisor-big-3.5.0-391406.i386.dd\3.fat\packages\3.5.0\client\

and Extract the Client...

Install it on a PC, and you should be able to connect to ESXi 3.5.0.
see my last post... no point wasting time trying to login and find it's not there.
as with my luck, I cannot download that. It is giving the error. please see in the picUser generated image
also on the separate note, i checked the logs hostd, and one of the machines which is a domain controller that is not getting started is saying the version of the virtual disk is newer than this program supported. I need to have that virtual machine running. It has all the important roles installed on it. Can i export that virtual machine and run it on a separate physical hardware?
Someone has messed with your VMware host for sure.
You can try if VMware Converter is able to convert the disk files and generate a cloned VM.
You don't have permission to download, because there is no license registered at VMware, which entitles you to download ESXi 3.5.

If you can login to the host, and get  to the bash console, you can start your VMs.
how to get the bash console and what command to run to start a VM?
ALT-F1.

Type unsupported.

at the password prompt, type your root password.

To power on a virtual machine from the command line:

List the inventory ID of the virtual machine with the command:

vim-cmd vmsvc/getallvms |grep <vm name>

Check the power state of the virtual machine with the command:

vim-cmd vmsvc/power.getstate <vmid>

Power on the virtual machine with the command:

vim-cmd vmsvc/power.on <vmid>
