G-chat notification

Running Windows 7 Professional SP-1 32-bit, I have a question about Google Mail chat notification.  I'm looking for a third party application which will present a desktop notification whenever a specific Google Hangout Chat thread has a new message.  The notification needs to be visual.  Enabling the standard notifications in Google Chat has not resolved this, because if the focus is on another window, the chat window does not come to the foreground.

you do not need a third party notification software.  Google already provides this and you can download the windows version from here

Thank you.  But for clarification,  I already use gchat with Google Mail.  Is the application which you mentioned different from that?  Also, I am using Windows 7 32-bit, and the desktop application at that link is exclusively for 64-bit.
yes that is a different application.

just one thing though.  I have not tested it with the free gmail account. you may want to try it.  becuase i have used it with my G-suite account. which is sort of same gmail but paid version by company domain.

Thank you.  It says I need to be running 64-bit Windows to use the desktop application.  However, I have an iPhone.  Is there a version of that App which would notify me on my iPhone if there is a new message in a specific gchat thread?
yes, there is an iphone app for it.

here is the link

This might be the solution.  I installed the app.  However, it wants to notify me about messages in multiple threads, and there is only one thread for which I want to enable notifications.  Would you mind offering some guidance about how to turn off notifications on the other threads?

Thank you for that link.  When I open the Chat app on my iPhone 6S, running iOS 12.1,  all the threads which I follow are visible.  But when I select a thread, there are no "Options", as they appear in that link.   There are icons at the bottom of the screen, including an alarm clock with a slash sign across it.  Perhaps that relates to notifications.  Otherwise, there is no menu, and no settings.
yes, the link i shared is an outdated article.   google must have changed the appearance.   that alarm clock that you found is the one you are looking for.

I just checked my iphone.  for any contact that you wan tto silent the notification, then open it, then go to option and there turn of "notification"

Nope.  That icon turns on or off the chat history.  If I just open the app, and don't select a thread, there is a settings menu, and a Notifications section.  But the choices are "New threads, threads I'm following, and direct messages" , "Threads I'm following and direct messages"  or "Only @mentions & direct messages."  The settings do not appear to be applicable to specific threads.

Sorry, our messages crossed.  The people who message me with gchat are not in my contacts, and it would be a chore to add them.

Yes, I am using the Chat app.  Sorry for my mistake.  I installed the Hangouts app, and I could access settings.  I configured the options as I would like them to perform, and will post again after testing...

I  enabled notifications for the Hangouts App in Settings, and had someone send me a new message on the thread which is enabled for notifications on my iPhone, and there was no notification on my phone.  At this point, I think I can contact Verizon tech support and have them troubleshoot the issue.  You've been a great help!
Thank you for your feedback.

Skylar, there is an issue with the Hangouts app, which many people have posted about not getting notifications.  So, I'm back to my original question, as to whether there is a third party app which will do that?
