asked on

needing online purchase links for a remote controlled LED bulb for a lamp

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,

After frustrative attempts to get my Lumiman Smart light bulb to work with Alexa without success, I have decided to shift the focus to something less complicated with respect to setup.  What I have in mind should be simple.  Basically, I am interested in any recommended online purchase links for an LED bulb which screws into a lamp socket like an incandescent bulb and equivalent to at least a 60-watt incandescent bulb.  The bulb will need to be dimmable, customizable to different colors, and remote controlled.

Any suggested online links to a remotely-controlled bulb with the above-mentioned expectations will be greatly appreciated.

         Thank you

         George

Philips Hue is pretty good stuff. We've replaced most bulbs with their LED products.
George, why did your Alexa attempt fail? What went wrong?

I agree on Philips Hue, but they are expensive. But Comtrol from a smartphone is very cool.

Hello Owen,

The Lumiman Smart bulb failed to connect to the wireless for some unknown reason as indicated through our unsuccessful set up attempt through the Samsung Android or tablet.

Ok, this is an odd question, but you were connecting it to the 2.4 GHz signal of wireless, right? They do not work on 5 GHz.
The reason I ask is that some new routers combine the 2.4 and 5.0 signals using the same name, and the router is supposed to roll back to 2.4 when 5.0 fails. Except, that has not been my experience. Because of that, I gave my 2.4 and 5.0 Wifi signals different WiFi names (like Wifi5 and Wifi2.4). If you do this, then you can force the bulb to connect only to the 2.4 signal. In this case, you switch your Samsung Android to 2.4 wireless, and then try and pair the bulb.

I know, a pain in the butt, but it might have been the problem.  I have ATT's latest router and it is the one that did not properly work with 2.4GHz WiFi only devices, but separating the names fixed it.

Don't know if this helps, but worth a stab.

Hello and Good Afternoon Everyone,

Thank you very much for your outstanding feedback to my question.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading and re-reading everyone's suggestions in addition to following up with each link.  After weighing the excellent answers given, I had to go with Stacy's recommendation because it was more in line with what I had in mind.  The actual bulb I went with was Sinjia which included a package of 3 bulbs and 3 remotes.  Setup was straightforward and self-explanatory.

On a side note, I want to deeply thank Owen for going that extra mile and offering a technical rationale for the failure of the wireless bulb to connect to the AT&T wireless gateway.  Owen's explanation certainly did make sense.  While I am tempted to give it a shot, I think I will save that project for another day.  Besides, I do not want to go off the beaten path of my original question.  At some point, I will follow up more by seeking an in-depth look at checking and manipulating the wireless frequencies of my AT&T default gateway using a new open post.

For now, I just want to say thank you, everyone, for your interest and eagerness to resolve my question.  As always, it is greatly appreciated.
