VMware ntg3 driver - corresponding Firmware?

Hi,

normally Broadcom/qlogic has a relatively strict driver-firmware compatibility.

For VMware ESXi 6.7, this is also shown in the compatibility matrix for the “tg3” driver

But for the now default ntg3 driver, the recommended firmware is listed as “N/A”

Any experience with this combination?

Or is the tg3 recommended over the newer ntg3?

(NIC is Broadcom BCM5719)

We've had major issues with the tg3 driver last year (2017) and  BCM5719 and  BCM5720, which at the time was not resolved by VMware, and stated replacing BCM5719 network interfaces with Intel, where the issue did not exist.

This was eventually fixed by a newer tg3 driver.

and then the initial ntg3 drivers were buggy, and be around since 6.5.

We have current builds with tg3 and  ntg3 with no issues in ESXi 6.7, and we are comparing, because we have been reminded of the issues with tg3 previously.

Thanks, Andrew!

Do you use / know corresponding firmware version, or just try latest firmware?

We are testing with latest versions of firmware from vendors servers.

I would definitely test before production, and these faults are usually found very quickly, as nic stops working.
