Issues and confusing when setting up Remote Desktop Services on Single Windows 2016 server
I'm trying to set up remote Desktop services on our Windows 2016 server and the licences (User CALS) aren't being used by users when they log in via RDP (as viewed in RD Licensing Manager).
I've been through the instructions on several sites namely this one at www.lemonbits.com but am getting the following error in Server Manager > Remote Desktop Services > Servers:
Error ID: 85
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Terminal Services-L icensing
The Remote Desktop license server could not be registered as a service connection point in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Ensure that there is network connectivity between the license server and AD DS. To register the license server as a service connection point in AD DS, use Review Configuration in the RD Licensing Manager tool.
When I Review the Configuration All I get is green ticks and no actions to take.
Looking for advice on where to go from here. It's all changed since I last set this up in 2008 when, if I remember correctly, it was much simpler (good old days?)

Hi Philip, thanks for your reply.
I opened Network Policy Service and right hand clicked on NPS (Local) and selected "Register server in Active Directory" but no change.
It is registered as that option is now showing as greyed out. I have also stopped and restarted the NPS service.
But when I RDP in to this server i don't see any of the licences being used despite refreshing the view.

Is the license server activated and the licenses installed?
Give it some time. They should start to be tagged to users.

Then something was missed in the configuration of the individual roles when it was originally set up as we have not hit this problem and we have quite a lot of single and farm based setups out there. :)
Right click on the root node and "Register in Active Directory".
That should take care of it.
