SonicPoints are managed access points.
You need a SonicWall firewall to manage it.

i dont think i firewall is needed for let my sonicpoint n2 works well, because my old sonicpoint NDR works well now and without firewall
old NDR was supported in stand alone mode.
SonicPoitn ACi/ACe and N2 as well as SonicWaves are no longer supported in standalone mode unfortunately.

Yes a Sonicwall is a requirement. NDRs didn't have the requirement, but the newer APs do.

In case you want to see documentation mentioning this requirement, see page 10: https://www.sonicwall.com/SonicWall.com/files/55/556109eb-120e-456c-8c53-bae96b809c8d.pdf
