Updating outlook mailitem in explorer mode
Hello.
I have an intermittent updating problem with a mailitem in the explorer mode on a public folder of an outlook exchange server 2010. The subject (or perhaps any part) of a mailitem does not seem to update itself at times.
Specifically, the subject of the mailitem shown in the explorer mode is dissimilar to that shown in the inspector mode. In other words, the explorer mode needs updating or synchronization.
Hitting F9 (send/receive) to update the public folder does not seem to help.
I would like to know if this anomaly can be detected (and perhaps perform manual updates/synchronization) using an outlook macro.
Thank you.
Thomas.

Yes, this is happening on the same machine. The changes are saved automatically via objMail.save command. I tried saving it manually but the problem persists.
You leave the mailitem inspector open after saving, I assume. What happens if you close and reopen it? Does it reflect the changes, or shows the "original" content as seen in explorer?

The inspector saves and closes with a macro command objMail.Close olSave by default. It always shows the latest modifications closed, opened, or reopened. The problem is with the outlook explorer, the subject line is old. The preview window in the explorer mode however, shows the latest modifications. Is there some sort of caching delay involved with the explorer?
Would be interesting to know whether this only happens with public folders. I don't think so, it rather looks like a general Outlook display bug.
Which Outlook release are you using?
What happens if you select a mail, then go into the VBA editor, open the Direct Input box (Ctrl-G), and do something like

ActiveExplorer.Selection.Item(1).Subject = 'x'
ActiveExplorer.Selection.Item(1).Save
ActiveExplorer.Selection.Item(1).Subject = ActiveExplorer.Selection.Item(1).ConversationTopic
ActiveExplorer.Selection.Item(1).Save
and watch what you see in each step? I just did that with my O 2010, and I see the change in Preview immediately, in Explorer only after .Save. And that is the expected behaviour.

I tested it out finally and as you say, this only happens with public folders.
FYI, I am using outlook 2010.
1: Explorer subject line: shows no change / Explorer preview window: subject shows x
2: Explorer subject line: shows x / Explorer preview window: subject shows x
3: No change in subject line
4: No change in subject line

What you see with the last tests is as expected and ok. It is not what you described first - unless the .Close does something different from the .Save ...

It is an intermittent problem and I will have to test it again when the displaying problem reoccurs. I will post the test results again.
