Hi, I have been using Mac Mail on my Macbook for a number of years now and I also use Gmail in my browser for one email account too (that I only need to check once a week).

I have also been using a mixture of Mail iOS and the Gmail app on my iPad.

I find Mac Mail quite clunky. Can anyone recommend any other email client that works well on Desktop (Macbook) and iPad. Please note i am not interested in using Gmail in my browser for all of my accounts, thanks.

I would also like to know why you chose your email client over other. Thanks in advance for your help.

Apple Mail. You add your mailboxes, and it builds a traditional looking mail app (with a universal inbox), it supports all the primary services (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Exchange, etc.), and generally works well.

if you want the traditional Apple experience, you’ll love this app. I use it day-to-day, but I know it’s mostly lagged behind a lot of the other apps concerning new features. If you do want to extend Apple Mail further, be sure to check out plugins like Mailbutler and Mail Act-On. The downside is that these run locally, so if your Mac is offline – nothing will happen to your email that requires these plugins.

Overall, it’s a fine app, but I am hopeful Apple begins to add new features to help people re-think email.

Sorry, as I mentioned above, I already use Apple Mail (Mac Mail).
I used Postbox (https://www.postbox-inc.com) for many years as an alternative to Mac Mail but eventually reverted as it failed to keep up with my needs.

Personally I use Mac Mail but with a fantastic plugin called MailHub (http://dervishsoftware.com/) which adds a whole load of filing and sorting features which Mac Mail lacks by default.

I know several people who use Spark on Apple OSX and iOS and swear that it is good - https://sparkmailapp.com
The other main alternative is AirMail -- https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/airmail-3/id918858936?mt=12

I use Apple Mail for my icloud, gmail and yahoo email accounts and they are synced across all my devices (iMac, iPhone, iPad).  Maybe there is some configuration in your Apple Mail that might make it not clunky?  What specifically are you not a fan of and I can look to see if that can be changed in Preferences.
