What I normally do is the following<br />
1) re-ip the first port with a different subnet,. e.g. formerly it was 192.168.1.1, I will re-ip it to 192.169.1.1<br />
2) configure the new port<br />
3) unassign the first port.<br />

In this case you don't risk losing any firewall rules and such
