How to Shrink and Delete/regain an existing large volume in Windows 2016 in vCenter 2016

How to Shrink and Regain  space in Windows 2016 in VMware 2016.
I have a Windows 2016 server where  we have allocated 2TB on Drive D (not C)
We would like to reduce from 2TB to 1TB and regain the space.
I can shrink it thru Windows 2016 - No problem. How can I regain or delete  this  "unallocated" space?

Good Advice. I was hoping to avoid a Third Party Tool and wondering if Windows 2016 had some unexplored ways to do it.
Thanks.
The Windows OS cannot change the underlying virtual disk (vmdk)....which it's installed in.... which is what you need to shrink to gain your 1TB back from the datastore.

that's a Host function.

Noted:
C Drive is 90 GB
D Drive is 2 TB (trying to reduce/regain/delete to 1 TB).

I think the safest and the easiest way I will go with in  Point 3. Robocopy or normal Windows  Copy and Paste.
2. is quickest, but it's a dirty hack and slash job!

1. is supported, but takes time to complete.

3. same time as 1. just copying the data.

Lesson here, is always start small and grow your disks slowly... much easier to grow than reduce (shrink)
