WordPress - where is the text editor?

So you do not see this?

No, I have looked on almost every page and in every corner and do not see that type of thing or any of the symbols below. I am trying to help out a friend so that person has given me their login in and pasword. Is it possible that they have a "dumb" version of Wordpress or their previous techie purposely screwed it up somehow?

Usually this is due to plugins designed by incompetent developers.

Maybe that's to harsh... let's see... the politically correct way of saying this...

Code quality impaired individuals...

Disable all plugins + retry.

If problem persists + you're using a premium (shudder) theme, then fallback to TwentySeventeen or GeneratePress + retest.

Every time I've debugged this problem, the source was a poorly conceived or coded plugin, which mucked about with Javascript in an uncivilized manner... like deregistering global JQuery + over riding with an outdated version of JQuery.

Did this just happen? It could be a plugin recently installed, and if it's recent, doing a backup from yesterday might clear it up. Most WP hosts will do regular backups. We use GoDaddy, and can choose from daily ones when something breaks and we can't identify why

I discovered that the Classic Editor was not installed. I installed it from the Plug Ins area and everything seems to be working better. However, I would not recommend WordPress to anyone. It is not user friendly.

Thank you for helping and your quick replies. Sometimes one exact answer does not come up right away but one thing leads to another. Sometimes it is difficult to know which response actually is the one that sparks another idea that leads to the solution.
