Max hard drive size vm - esx 6.5

Hi, i have a File server on vmware esx 6.5, it says maximum disk size is 2.97tb for one of the drives, i thought esx 6.5 supported larger drives than this?

Yes, it can have a maximum virtual machine disk of 62TB.

(but that figure you are reading could be based on the max size available to grow to, based on storage space on datastore!).

The datastore has 2tb free. Why does it say max size though on one of the VM hard drives as 2.97tb? The current drive is 2.5tb in space.

I am using the web client to connect to vcenter, the version of the virtual machine it says it VM Version 13

Okay, so your datastore size of MAXIMUM 3.64TB.

Current FREE SPACE is 649.49GB

This VM has a current disk of 2406 GB (2.4TB)

So adding the FREE space of 649GB is approx a max size of 2.98TB (2406GB + 649GB)....

Hence why the MAX SIZE is 2.98TB based on your datastore free space!
