I am trying to comprehend why would you migrate a MANAGEMENT physical adapter on vswitch on a VSS to a DVSWITCH. What if that dvswitch fails or unavailable. How do you manage that host. I was thinking I could see why you would want to do this from the storage or vmotion traffic but struggling to see from a vm I am sorry if this is a remedial question but new to VMware and trying to get an understanding..My organization is using Version of sphere 6.0 update 3.

I was just thinking of the concept as a back up way to get to the server. Now that I think about this you have (in the case of dell IDRAC). I will accept and move on. I understand vmotion and other services but wasn't sure about why management. Thanks for your answer.

If you have ESXi servers set up in a dark datacentre, then iLo, iDRAC or other remote methods, will allow you to gain access and reconfigure, otherwise access visa console via IP KVM, or old school use the console.

if Management is down, vCenter Server will not be able to manage, so vMotion, DRS, SDRS functions will stop working anyway, as no vCenter Server management of the host.

BUT, VMs should still be running and work.
