Outlook autocomplete - is there a way to have autocomplete work on Name AND email address??

I thought this would be easy, but...

Helping a neighbor with new computer. Moved from using Windows Live mail? app on old PC to outlook on office 365 on a new computer

Concerning auto complete.... I got their contacts moved over by exporting then importing the contacts as a csv.

But now, for example if bob smith has email robertsmith@yahoo, he wants to be able to type bob on the to line and have autocomplete show that. But it doesn't.  Only if you type on the to line Robe...will it autocomplete the email address.  )and then it shows the entry as bob smilth robertsmith@yahoo.com (there IS a contact with both his name and email address).

Is there a way to control autocomplete to search on name as well as email address?

You need to populate Contacts and then as you use the Contact, autocomplete will populate.

forgot to mention... I did the 'trick' of  delay sending an email to ALL contacts as a way to populate autocomplete.

It did populate autocomplete, but only comes up with suggestions based on matching email address.

I know on my outlook, I start typing a name and that will also bring up the person / email address.

so to get to bob smith with email of robertsmith@yahoo.com ON MY OUTLOOK, you could start typing ro... OR bo....

On this other machine, autocomplete will come with it only if you type starting ro... (email address only).

How about your outlook?  How's that work? on name and email?  email only?  name only?
If I have emailed someone (whether typing in the email or using my contact), Autocomplete then takes over an autocompletes properly
your not saying what completes properly means - type by their name and or email?  or just 1 of those will get the address?
ok.  it works for both name AND email i think you are saying.

the question is how to get that?  Cause this user is only getting autocomplete to work based on email. NOT by name.
(not by first OR last name... so I thought it was tied to display name.  on that machine it only works on email address.
If I start typing and there is no autocomplete (normal from time to time), I type in the email address or go to Contacts (if there) and select the contact. Prepare and send the email and then Autocomplete works.
Its frustrating when  you aren't answering the question. I'm not talking at all about going into contact for this.

strictly on the workings of autocomplete. Can you save us both the time to not talk about going into contacts?  The person IS already in autocomplete.  but doesn't come up by name (as it does in my outlook) but only by starting to type the email address.

So trying to get to bob, knowing him as bob, autocomplete doesn't work. Only when you remember that his email is rob... that autocomplete will work.

that's NOT how it works on my outlook and trying to find out why.
I am describing the way Autocomplete works.

If your Outlook is not working in the prescribed way, try:

1. Rebuilding Autocomplete (delete and let it rebuild) because it gets corrupted.
2. If that does not work, you may need to Repair Office (Control Panel, Programs and Features).

that's NOT how it works on my outlook and trying to find out why.   I cannot always know why someone's Outlook is not working
Also, and I could add this:

I sometimes copy the email with the name from an existing email. Then I paste that into a new email. Then I mail it.

Now the next time I use that email, it will come out with name and email.

That works, but it is not automatic and there is not any way to automatically do what I am suggesting here. But it is how I approach the issue.
Follow up:  New employee at a client.  tname@client.com.

Autocomplete (working properly) makes me find as tna…  and it works.

So I went to a recent email from tname and copied the email as <thomasname (tname@client.com)>

Now when I search, Thomas finds the address (along with any other Thomas).

So what you what is easily done, just not automatic or a native feature.
