How much ram to order without going overboard.

Need -a- Clue
Need -a- Clue used Ask the Experts™
I am requesting advice on how much ram to order for a new workstation. The most intensive software that I use are three applications. CorelDraw, Adobe Photoshop and Camtasia. I imagine Camtasia utilizes the most ram. It is a video editing application. I am not proficient in this application yet, but the computer I am ordering should have enough horsepower to run the program without hesitation. I do not want to waste my money on ram that will be in excess of my needs. The computer I am going to order is a Dell 5820 Tower and it will have two OneTB SSD drives. I would welcome suggestions on the quantity of ram to purchase.

32GB DDR4 Memory is the answer.

The recommended requirement is 16GB.

Anyway, if you are tight on budget, you should get a better monitor instead of more memory. Your new computer does support 256GB DDR4 memory but it is definitely an overkill for your usage.

Agree. 16GB min., 32GB recommended, going over 64GB is (probably) overkill. But make sure to have enough free RAM slots to add memory if required later. This should not be an issue here as you have 8 slots available ;-).

Great! That is what I was hoping to hear. I do have 32 gigs now and Camtasia in VERY basic testing is only using 20% of the 32 gigs. I will order 32 or 64 and feel safe either way. Thanks a heap for your Expert advice!!
