Setup scan to email on a Brother printer MFC-8710DW

hello everyone,

i am trying to setup "scan to email" in a Brother MFC-8710dDW. Basically the user place the document in the flat bed or in the feeder she clicks a few buttons on the printer display, and the document goes directly into her Outlook 2010 as attachment.
I have never set it up.

the first question i have is am i going to set it up on the printer or i need to install the full drivers and utilities package for that printer model, then with that applicatin i will be able to set up within the pc the feature "scan to email"?

second does anyone have step by step instruction on how to do this so i will limit the possibility to mess it up please or link to videos ?

thank you so much,

wow, lamthecreator OM ...a lot of steps and a lot of info required. the video is for scan to email server
what if i need to scan to email attachment ? do you also have that video ? it may be easier to setup.

they have 2 brother printer. both her and he were able to scan and the scanned document used to go directly to the email now his printer stopped doing that. I was thinking after your info to log in to the printer that works and copy the configuration settings ?

it should work, of course i will put the different IP and email and password....but i will make sure that all the fields are covered...
thank you for your prompt response, i will do the job tomorrow morning at 10:30am eastern time. if i need some extra help are you around ? are you in my time zone ?
thank you
Scan a document and e-mail it as an attachment using the SCAN key on my Brother machine:

this is what i need to setup tomorrow. do you have a video for this feature please? they used to push a button on the printer then select  scan to pc and the document used to go directly into the email.

i am looking but i cant find the video i need.  i need a video that shows how to scan to pc as attachment from that brother printer...and i cant find it.... anyone can help please.

the video i have received is how to scan to a server...….i need as attachment...to an email he uses gmail..
Hey Joe,

happy holidays :) yes you are right on target, i need to scan to a computer using the scan key.....i am going to read right now..THANK YOU...
Happy Holidays to you, too! It's been a while since we've communicated...I hope you are doing well. All the best, Joe
I am learning more, i am doing great and i bother everyone less..:) but i have never configured a brother printer to scan to a computer.
i read the 5 pages form 60 to 65 and the info are on target. but i am missing something. i need to know how to configure the printer to recognize the computer. in page 64 he is telling me to use the software ControlCenter4 to configured. but in page 64 he tells me to click on the file tab ? why not on the email tab ?

in the info provided by iamthecreator i   war reading somewhere between the links he sent to me tha you need to register the computer with the printer so that the printer when you click the button ' ScanKey" it will know to which computer send the scanned document. I only have one computer to send to but still in the display menu should appear "Peter" name.

can you help me to narrow down this step....a video will be fantastic. But also instructions….

Grazie Joe or anyone...
i know what i need to do: i need to setup the destination on the network...it looks like it is done in the properties of the Brother printer....

Hi Italiabella,
Sorry for the delayed response...I was AFK for a while. I see that hdhondt has jumped in and his advice may be what you are looking for. I've had many Brother MFCs during many years, including MFC-3820cn, MFC-7820n, MFC-9970CDW, MFC-L8850CDW, and others (all connected via network, not USB), but never had the MFC-8710DW. More importantly, I've never used the Scan button at the machine for any of them...scanning has always been via software on the PC (usually PaperPort, sometimes Power PDF, on rare occasions other software)...so my ability to help you regarding the Scan button at the machine is limited. Regards, Joe
DOn't tell me about it...i set them up as you do :) using the software..but i will use the links provided by hdhondt and let everyone know if i am successful or not tomorrow.

thank you everyone for your prompt help!
