HDDregenerator from usb stick

i have following problem :
i have the hddregenerator program ver 10 on the hiren's boot cd
i can run it from cd on my pc - no problem

so i made an iso of the hiren bootcd
when i put the iso on a multibootstick, made with Yumi, it errors out during the driver loading of different cd drivers when starting HDDregenerator
what can be the cause?
the hiren boot cd boots normally, and i select the HDDregenerator program ok
***HDDReg is a dos program

Hi nobus, is mentioning this H*** cd now allowed here? Before the whole posts were deleted for this :)
If posting is ok then I would try different multiboot usb creator such as winusb.

yep it is allowed, they have removed the offinding software, as far as i know

Side note:  When a disk drive reaches a state where it starts throwing errors, no "regenerator" is going to solve the underlying problem(s).  The spindle bearings are worn, the actuator bearing has been whomped too many times by the linear motor, the tuned-to-match electronics no longer match the aging platters, the heads have landed too many times and worn the ferrites down.  "Regenerating" bad sectors doesn't solve those problems but it does give a bad sense of "Now this drive is as good as new again and I can keep using it."

When a drive starts throwing errors, it's time to replace it.  1000 GB drives are less than $100 and nobody can afford to lose the amount of programs and data stored on a 1 GB drive ... not to mention the time and effort involved in dealing with an unnecessary and preventable disaster.  Recover what can be recovered from the failing drive (because that's what it is, it is a failing drive), buy a replacement, and vow to monitor the SMART status of all drives and read the system event logs at least once a week.
Is the hiren using dos or winpe (for xp) to start?
hiren usually boots in a windows xp environment to access the enclosed applications. Which may be the reason that HDD regenerator is not working as it runs in a dos type environment.

Dr Klahn the Q is not about thedisk repair, it is about why the program works ok when run from CD, adn NOT when i put it on an usb stick

Noxcho - hirens, and HDDregenerator (from now = HDDR) both use dos
webtracker, i never saw anything related to windows
if you want screenshots, i can post pictures ( no screenshots possible in DOS)
I’ll download it and check if I can make it boot. But this will take some time because I am changing my ISP next week. Posting from mobile :)
wow they must have switched every version of hirens boots to a windows xp gui

noxcho - take your time; i'm in no hurry.
maybe you can help here too :  https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/29128946/make-a-VM-from-a-separate-disk.html

Nyes, post whatever you have. I get my new ISP tomorrow approximately :)

ha - good to hear you will be back soon !when i was making the pics, i did that on a second system -  and there it worked!
an Asus H97M-E board
on the other board  -  Asus P8B75-M it still locks up loading cd drivers
that shows - that the stick is ok, and can run fine

rest the problem why it does not on the second one ! !

i did some more tests
it boots ok on a pc with  H97M-E mobo, and on a Pavilion G6
problems arise when booted from P8B75-M, or Z170M-PLUS: also from MSI G41M4 - the last one is a bios system, the others are UEFI
Can you give me the link to download?

Hi nobus, how do you manage to make it boot from EFI system at all? In my case it refuses to boot on it. Only MBR system is supported.
I am using this extracted ISO Hiren's.BootCD.10.6.iso

i used Yumi, and put the iso file like that on it  https://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/
to run HDDReg, you select disk tools, > more a couple of times, then HDDReg
Well I think HDDRegenerator does not support SCSI device (CD-ROM is considered as SCSI device for example or any virtual device which is exactly the case when you boot it from USB stick via third software). The way it is designed via unpacking into Temp folder from .uha and after that running HDDReg.exe is the issue imho. It checks the drive from which it is started and fails to get its interface.

that sounds reasonable, but do you have an idea why it does work on some boards, ond not on others?
if i know that answer, it would be useful
As I dont know exact logic of hard drive detection behind this tool (the developer does not describe it) I can only assume that different boards use different scsi emulation allroaches. Same like when you installa daemon tools - it emulates hardware device to mount iso image.
One thing I also noticed is that HDDRegenerator checks for IDE devices and some motherboards do not have IDE mode at all nowadays.

that's possible ; yes, though the msi board on which it does not work has still IDE slots, and a normal (old )bios

i suppose it's due to a bios update that it does not boot anymore, ; i've found the same happening on my machines

So the BIOS update changes the way scsi device emulation takes place. Only the developer of the tool can give the correct answer here nobus.
