asked on

ivanti (( APP Sence )) VS Workspace Environment Manager

HI Experts

i want to ask

we have Xendesktop platinum license  can we use Citrix work space environment management for free or we have to pay extra license to use it

and my other question which one you think can really be the perfect profile management plus resource management

ivanti (( APP Sence ))  VS  Workspace Environment Manager

My understanding is that it would be for Enterprise and Platinum, but you had to be on Software Maintenance/Select in order to be entitled to it.  I know with Unidesk they differentiated Platinum by making elastic layering for platinum only.

i hope the expert will answer me has real hands on experience

we need an advice from experts before we buy ivanti   or you think citrix-workspace-environment-management will good enough to get stable user profile management or will be the same like CITRIX UPM

i know WEM use UPM but maybe they have better control

WEM is very similar to AppSense UWM, however you don't get as rich a set of features. WEM basically equates to EM and PM in AppSense, there is not an equivalent set of features for AM. So if you rely on any AM feature of AppSense then you might lose out.

However if you just use EM and PM feature you may find its a little lighter than AppSense but possibly good enough. You should get WEM entitlement as long as you have Platinum licenses and valid CSS/SA, if I recall correctly.
Also you're right if you use EM Personalization Server you will need to use UPM alongside WEM, you can now control UPM directly from WEM and the two products should move to closer integration in future.

what AM feature of AppSense i dont know what is AM

also as you said WEM still use UPM so still use a shred file system to save users profiles but Appsense use DB to save them

and if the user profile get corrupted on UPM no way to fix it so i have to bring it from backup

but Appsence they have ability to fix the user profile on multi level

this is what i heard about

so the ablity to the user profile if got corrupted on UPM bring it from backup  but with AppSence they have a console which you can use to bring every single sitings back to fix the profile

please correct me if i am wrong

thanks alot for this info

yes i can configure flat backup because we use nexenta Store and Nexenta Support flat backup

(( also it now has the capability to restore the Registry from a last known good config. ))

i don't know about this can you give me details how can i do it with Citrix UPM

and another question if i want to contact you like have phone call with you for consulting advices
It's just a GPO setting you configure for UPM, it is all driven by group policy. You need the latest version though.

Drop me an email at james@htguk.com if you want to contact me directly, I'm at an event just now so can't take calls but I can send you my number via email.

James

We are fighting to find a standard device to use it in our company for XenDesktop and xenapp
And this device has to cover this
1- support HDX protocol and 3 DHX
2- support RTME for Skype for business
3-  ability to connect two monitors
4- ability to connect webcam and headset and digital tablet
5- option if possible power over Ethernet
I managed to bring all to work on Intel NUC with windows 10

And part of these things on Intel NUC with ThinLinks as OS

But my manager wants such device cover all that but without windows
I don't find any pro thin client can cover all that without using windows as OS

Any ideas or advice here

Thanks
Send me some more details to my email address specified above, we are exceeding the scope of the question so let's take it offline 😊
