Also, re-reading, what I have done myself is source a replacement screen (eBay) and replaced it. Normally easiest to get a complete lid with hinges. <br />

I originally took your post to mean use another laptop as a display to one with a broken screen. That I do not do. But replace screen / lid, yes, I have done this.

I was replacing both LED and LCD (fluorescent) displays between different models if connector on the screen is located at the same/similar place so I can use original motherboard to screen cable (LED to LED, Fluorescent to Fluorescent - not mixing types). I even tested LCDs with different ratios at some moment, but did not provide good results :) .<br />
There was no issues. This, I guess, means that displays has standardized connector on it, on motherboard side from my experience even the same vendor can have many different motherboard side connectors (so needs to be original screen to motherboard cable - otherwise it might be risky).

Not only that cable but antenna wires as well. As we have said, it really needs to be the same part (assuming you want the resulting machine to work like a normal laptop).

Not sure what you are referring to about antennas - antennas are universal, on all laptop models so far had separate cables, never had any issues with antennas. Old cables can be used if not cables are not faulty.<br />

One thing is MAY BE, and other is ARE. Typically it is easy to find laptop service manual and check it (better than guess about it).<br />
