need to know how to configure Citrix UPM Exclusions and synchronize and mirroring
I had this question after viewing Citrix profile management issue.
HI
i still need more info to under stand
1- Exclusion List - directories and files in Citrix profile management
if i decied to exclude this list that mean this folders will be saved on the xenapp server local disk
and my xenapp server disk less because it boot over network from PVS server so the all Vdisk actual will use Xenapp memory
my question if i want to configure Exclusion List - directories and files so maybe i have to create for every work a local disk to use as a store for all of these excluded directories
so how can i tell this inside citrix UPM policy on Citrix director
i really don't want the excluded directories to be loaded on drive C where it is coming over network from PVS server
anybody here can tell me how this work why Citrix recommended this (( we have 10 G Ethernet so keep the whol profile on the network share should make scene ))
the same question for
Directories and files to synchronize
to synchronize to where ?
the same question for
Folders to mirror mirror to where
sorry if anyone has any link will show the configuration for such configuration step by step or good links to explain this to me
i am using only citrix UPM on a shared file system and i know nothing about configuring
Exclusion List - directories and files
Directories and files to synchronize
Folders to mirror
thanks in advance

Hi
I know this link
But what I want to know if I configured the list of exclude directories
And enabled that when the user log of the profile will be deleted
My point all These excluded directories and files will be deleted
Or will stay until I reboot the xenapp server
For sync directories
What if the user log of and some of the sync files and directories dose not really sync
I think this will lead to profiles corruption
The same for mirror
For me I configured folder redirection for big folders like desktop download etc
So now the only annoying thing for me IE and Firefox cache
Do think it is really best practice to configure directories exclusion

Right now my main concern
If I start to use directories excludsion
How long this data will stay on the local disk if the worker ( xenapp server )
If this data will be removed when the user log off so I will do it
But if this data will stay until I reboot the worker. That mean the local disk will be full of users profiles and will be bloated and this will effect performance
Plus about sync and mirrors what the side effects for this configuration
Kindly advice

I would advise rebooting your session hosts at least once a week. I believe UPM will delete the local profile when the user logs off. Those setting you’re talking about are when you use a profile store, so if a user logs in with their profile, when they’re finished and log off, the settings in those directories specified will not be written back to the profile. So anything you have set in exclusion will not get written back.

i know it will not be written back
but i want them to be deleted when the user logoff without reboot the host
yes sure i will reboot the host every week
but i have more than 700 users i cannot afford to keep their profiles untill i reboot
so i want you to confirm that when the user will logoff this data will be dealted (( the excluded directories and files
if yes so them excluded directories configuration make sense

Look at the previous link I sent you. UPM will delete the users local profile once they log off their session.

I know from my Citrix environment that when the user Logoff the cached profiles will be deleted
But I have no idea or experience if this will work the same if I configured directories exclusion
I don't find I clear txt in Citrix doc which tells this
I am afraid that the xenapp server disk will be bloated with profiles data till the next reboot
But if you say data will be deleted after the user will Logoff
So configuring directories exclusion make sense to keep user profiles light

look here
they said
(( Delete locally cached profiles on logoff
This setting specifies whether locally cached profiles are deleted after a user logs off.
When this setting is enabled, a user’s local profile cache is deleted after they have logged off. Citrix recommends enabling this setting for terminal servers. ))
Cached profiles this exactly my question (( can conceder the list of excluded directories data )) A Cached profiles

Directories excluded is irrelevant. Local Profiles will be deleted regardless of what set. The directories and files you set will be retained in the users UPM profile when the user logs off the session host.
Configuring exclusions is more about what you want to retain in your UPM profile, regardless, the local profile will be deleted.

Sorry I just want to ask again
So you want to tell me if I excluded
INetcach directory
After the user will Logoff all IE Cache will retain in the main user profile store?!
So what the main purpose of exclusion if will not trash such data which will bloat the user profile

Great
So as I understand now
1- when I excluded directories these will not retain in the user profile store and this will help to keep it light
2- all these excluded directories data and files will be removed when the user will Logoff
So the server disk will not be bloated till the next reboot
If this right so I will configure exclusion soon
Thanks for all info

I would advise reviewing the following web page in length to ensure you fully understand how profile management works within a Citrix environment, it is the same for RDSH and VMWare Horizon View - https://www.carlstalhood.com/citrix-profile-management/
Let me know if you need any further help!
