XLSTART folder does not exist.

On some computers the XLSTART folder does not exist. (Excel 2013 - Windows 10).

I would like to distribute a macro which would start when a user starts Excel, but the folder XLSTART does not exist.
Yet, for some users on the same computer the folder exists.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There should always be 2 XLSTART folders - one is user specific, and possibly affected by the user's view settings in Explorer, and the other will be under the Office version folder in Program Files.

But there is none.
However I copied the macro under the Excel folder, parent of XLSTART and restarted Excel. Seems it creates the folder now. Not sure how it will be tomorrow after the user restarts. Don't want to bother them more than I have to.

For 2010 and 2013 which I run on my workstation the XLSTART folder has the same location for Windows 10 - Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel.

It is created when you record a macro.  If you were logged on as the user, you could create it for them.  I would start with the path to the templates folder, backup one folder, and then add the other two subfolders.

If that's the case, then this is the solution.

On some computers, and I ma sure they did not record any macros, folders existed.
Let me verify this to know the reason why the XLSTART folder was not created.
Thank you.
Rory ArchibaldCommented:
AppData is a hidden folder by default, so unless the user has amended the Explorer options to show that folder, you wouldn't be able to find XLSTART there.
MezczyznaERP SpecialistAuthor Commented:
Yes, Ken. Recording a macro creates the folder as well.
Not sure if this is the reason why it was not in the first place, but I accept it. Thank you.

Rory, this is not a question.
By the way, I pointed the directory in the message somewhere above.
