asked on

what are the technical applications of a Windows 10 Media Creation Tool?

Hello and Good Afternoon Everyone,

From a previously closed post, I learned about the Windows 10 Media Installation for a USB flash drive.  The link for review is https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10.  At this point, I am wondering about the extent of it technical applications.  For instance, can the Windows 10 installation media reinstall, repair, recover, and fix a variety of Windows 10 error messages?   Also, will it work for both, 32-bit and 64-bit machines?

Any feedback given in reply to the technical applications of the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool will be greatly appreciated.

           Thank you

It is a Repair Tool.

1. It cannot fix a broken Windows User Profile  (only backup and reinstall can fix that).
2. It assumes Windows 10 is running. It cannot repair a system that will not start.
3. It can repair most other issues (90%) but not every last one.

It is a good tool to use, you need to get it started and then watch paint dry (that is, easy to use and just wait time).

John, I think you are mixing up something here.

The MCT is creating an installable W10 medium with the respective W10 release it belongs to, or downloading and applying the installation files required to this particular machine.

So you can use it to repair/upgrade the current machine now, download the installation files for this machine for later setup, or download a complete set of installation files to upgrade/install other machines to W10 xxxx (e.g. 1809).

I was referring to Repair. The system must be running to Repair it.

Yes, if starting fresh, then you can use this as well. I did not see that as much of a benefit if trying to save a system with minimal effort.

Hello George, there was much more assistance here than just simply "repair".  I thought you wanted a range of information so why just the single solution?

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to address my question.  The link which was given by Nobus certainly addressed the most important technical application of Windows 10 Media Creation, namely, the repair feature.  The information contained within the link is easy to follow and understand.  I went ahead and took the liberty of printing out this information for future reference.

        Thanks again.

Hi John,

At the onset of this question, I was hoping to get much in-depth discussion regarding the range of technical applications of the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.  Seeing that this post has been up now for 2 days with limited commentary, I decided to go ahead and provide closure to this question.  While Nobus may have not comprehensively addressed this question, he did provide an informative link discussing the Repair option of the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.  That said, I believe an important component of this question was answered.

Even though this question is closed, I certainly welcome any new feedback relevant to this question.  I am always interested in reviewing follow up thoughts and ideas.
