Dell B2375 printer failure

Dell B2375dfw printer slow to start up, and then control panel doesn't work properly.  Have a client with 6 of these printers, and have seen some issues over the last 2 years.  I have upgraded all of them to latest firmware.  One lately will eventually work after powering on... but it could be 30 minutes or 6 hours before it works.  Then it might only work for a couple days at best.  The control panel most of the time has spinning dots while booting up.  When it is functional, the blue boxes on the panel are missing and only the white outline for the boxes appears.  You can touch a few areas and get a response, like toner levels or error message.  You cannot login to the device from the panel.  A firmware earlier this year helped other printers, but the latest problem child was not as lucky.  Is this printer junk, or does anyone have a magic wand?

Try a factory reset, as per the manual, pg 77:

  • Press My Settings > Machine Setup > Factory Reset
  • Press Start ( ) on the screen.
  • After factory reset, machine will reboot automatically

This needs to be done as administrator. If you don't have the admin password, Dell suggest this:

  • Enter “Service Mode”.
  • While logged out of the operator panel, press Home (), Job Status () and Info () buttons in succession and hold each one after pressing until all of them are pressed. Hold for 2 seconds.
  • When the password input window appears, touch the input box.
  • Enter “1934”.
  • Press the arrow button in the bottom right.
  • The Service Mode menu will be displayed.
  • Press “Test Routine”.
  • Press “Other”.
  • Press “Memory Clear”.
  • Choose your country and press “Start”.
  • This menu resets the system to factory default settings. This function is used to reset the system to the initial value when the product is functioning abnormally. All of the values are returned to the default values, and all of the information, which was set by the user, will be erased.

Note that f/w upgrades never fix a faulty printer. They are used to fix bugs and (rarely) install new features.

I had not thought of that.  I cannot perform this from the control panel of the printer, but may be able to from the web controls.

If you have admin access to the printer a factory reset may be possible from the web interface.

I can send a factory reset command via the web interface, but nothing happens on the printer.  Power cycled and tried again.  Any other ideas?
I have assumed the printers behave the same way if they are not connected to the network. Is that correct?

If it is, I would get Dell involved. The fact that multiple printers all have the same problem, which seems to have nothing to do with drivers or PCs, should be of interest to them.

Dell will no longer support it.  Yes, same way when not connected to network.  The other 5 identical printers are working fine as of today.
That is strange. Dell last updated the support page for your printer in August this year.

I believe that was another firmware.  The printers are well beyond the warranty.
