I checked the Snipping tool (based on SnagIt) and SnagIt (which I have and use) and there is not any way to set default. Just the last extension used

For Microsoft Snipping Tool, it will remember what you file format used last time. &nbsp;if it was JPEG, by default, it will be automatically changed to JPEG next time. see the screenshot.<br />

For Microsoft Snipping Tool, it will remember what you file format used last time.  if it was JPEG, by default, it will be automatically changed to JPEG next time. see the screenshot.
