screenshots as .jpeg not .png

screen shoats savign as .png file after some windwos update.

It will save as you last saved . Save a screen shot in your desired format and that is how screen shots will be saved going forward

I checked the Snipping tool (based on SnagIt) and SnagIt (which I have and use) and there is not any way to set default. Just the last extension used

How are you creating the screenshots? PrintScreen/Alt+PrintScreen key? Snipping Tool? Third-party app like Greenshot?

For Microsoft Snipping Tool, it will remember what you file format used last time.  if it was JPEG, by default, it will be automatically changed to JPEG next time. see the screenshot.
