akamai.net Traffic

Hi Experts,

I have been noticing some my endpoint computers going to this site akamai.net.  I am not sure why or what application/s are generating this traffic.

Have you seen this in your environments and should I blocked this site ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

akamai.net is a content delivery provider that is used by major web sites including Microsoft.  Microsoft also stores various software repositories on akamai servers.  It is therefore not practical to block akamai on a network that has Windows systems and web browsers on those systems, though in some cases it would be nice to do so.
