"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi George,
I guess you looked for the 2019 1040EZ and couldn't find it. The reason is explained in this IRS News Release:

IRS Working on a New Form 1040 for 2019 Tax Season

Simply stated, the new 1040 will replace the current 1040, the 1040A, and the 1040EZ. Regards, Joe

Hi David and Joe,

While the 1040 Form for 2018 looks much shorter and simpler, I remain confused about it.  For instance, using the link of https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf which goes straight to 1040 Form for 2018, I notice there are not any areas for inserting information from the W-2.  That said, I am wondering how someone like myself who completes their own income tax returns each year can determine their return amount or amount owed.

Hi George,
I suggest reading the instructions for the new 1040:

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040gi.pdf

Haven't done so myself, but I suspect the answers to your questions are in there. Regards, Joe

I need to follow up and add that I have always filed on paper as opposed to doing it electronically.   While the instructions do indeed go through the necessary steps or calculations for determining a refund or amount owed, there still remains the necessary fields on the 2018 1040 Form for insertion.  My taxes are always very basic and only require information from the W-2.   Perhaps I might need to look into filing electronically this time.  I am just not sure what direction to go with this when the time comes.

Hi Everyone,

Please accept my humble apologies :-(   When I initially opened up the form, I never scrolled down to see the remaining half of it.  Everything is cleared up now :-)

Hello and Good Morning David and Joe,

Thank you very much for your followups.  Using the link given by David, I was able to print out what will be needed for filing the 2018 income taxes.

On a more personal note, thank you very much Joe for your additional clarification used to help clear up some of my confusion.  As always, your willingness and drive to go that extra mile to help is greatly appreciated and noted :-)
