Note that TWAIN/WIA driver Version 7.2.25.0 was released on 17-Dec-2018:
https://www.support.xerox.com/support/altalink-b8000-series/downloads/enus.html?operatingSystem=win10x64&fileLanguage=en
So, if the problem "started at the beginning of December", it may not be the driver.
One idea is to upgrade the firmware. At the same link as above, you'll find firmware Version 101.008.008.27400, dated 26-Nov-2018 (click Firmware in the Quick Picks panel). Another idea is to try the WIA driver instead of TWAIN (if, of course, the Thomson Reuters app supports WIA). Regards, Joe
Step back to when it was working. Â Load the full backup of the system made before the problem started occurring. Â If the issue is a driver, then this should take care of the issue. Â Then disable automatic updates for that specific product.
If this doesn't solve the problem, then IMO look at an alternate TWAIN support product such as VueSoft and see if it supports the device.

First, I like to put updated firmware on my devices. Is there a risk? Sure, but there are also potential issues in not keeping them updated. In decades of firmware updates, I've never bricked a device, although it is certainly possible.
Second, I've been a big fan of VueScan for many years and Ed Hamrick has been very helpful. However, in many cases, VueScan will not work unless you have the scanner driver already installed. It's always a good idea to look at VueScan's list of supported scanners to see if your particular scanner needs a driver from the scanner manufacturer:

As far as I can tell from the Xerox list, VueScan does not support your AltaLink B8055.

Software is any set of instructions that directs a computer to perform specific tasks or operations. Computer software consists of programs, libraries and related non-executable data (such as documentation). Computer software is non-tangible, contrasted with computer hardware, which is the physical component of computers. Software written in a machine language is known as "machine code". However, in practice, software is usually written in high-level programming languages than machine language. High-level languages are translated into machine language using a compiler or interpreter or a combination of the two.
