Hi Varshini,

I've seen this problem happen once due to a corrupt user profile. To rule that out as the cause for yourself, please try creating a temporary user profile and checking to see if the behaviour occurs there.

If that resolves it, then you'll need to make that test profile permanent and copy your user info across to it.

I wrote an article on this process a while back which you might find helpful at the following link:

Creating a Local Administrator User Profile in Windows 10

If you need to create a Microsoft Account user profile, then step by step instructions on doing that are explained in another article I wrote here:

Create a new Microsoft Account User Profile in Windows 10

I'd recommend trying it with a local administrator profile first though, as it's quite easy to change a local profile into a Microsoft Connected profile later should you need to keep it.

Hope that's helpful.

Search should look much different in v1809 showing a sub window of what you can search on.

So in addition to the above, open an admin command prompt and run SFC /SCANNOW followed by DISM.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /restorehealth

Restart and test

Please let us know

So if the above does not fix the issue and the suggestion further back of a new Windows Account does not solve the problem, then you need to try a Windows 10 Repair Install from the  Microsoft Media Creation Link

John: Windows 10 Repair delete my all the stuff in PC?
McKnifeCommented:
Why repair windows if it's a corrupted profile? Repairing windows will not change the profile.
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
Windows Repair can keep everything but it cannot repair a broken Profile as noted above. So you do need to test with a new Windows Profile
Varshini SAuthor Commented:
John: I'm not having issues in the new windows profile. windows search working fine in the new profile.
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
So then you need to replace the profile as Andrew suggested earlier.  A Windows Repair will not help you.

John & Andrew: Can I use the below link to re-install the windows? please let me know

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
Yes.  I added some details here.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Windows 10 is running, so click on the Download button (not Upgrade Button, select Save.
Create a USB Windows Installation key and then run Setup on the USB Key.
This will launch the Repair and proceed normally
Varshini SAuthor Commented:
Thank You, Do I need to back up the system before doing this?
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
I always ensure important documents are always backed up,

However, if the computer is running reasonably well, then you can Keep Everything and nothing will be lost.

I have done quite a number of Repair Installs.
Varshini SAuthor Commented:
Downloading media in USB now. Do I need to restart the computer to launch the repair?
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
No. It will download, start installing and restart as needed.

Varshini,

Please also note that while using the above link to reinstall Windows 10 will likely do no harm, if the search function is working as per your earlier comment here:

I'm not having issues in the new windows profile. windows search working fine in the new profile.

What you are now doing is likely not necessary and an unneeded step. Follow the advice given in my article(s) about permanently replacing your profile that I gave you as the very first comment in your question and the issue should be solved for you.

I have no idea why you are doing a Windows repair. Can you explain that please?

Cheers, Andrew
McKnifeCommented:
Sorry, but why would you want to reinstall the PC? It's just a broken profile which needs to be deleted and re-created.

Andrew:  I have gone through your link https://www.experts-exchange.com/articles/31553/Creating-a-Local-Administrator-User-Profile-in-Windows-10.html

The new profile I have no issues. So I decided to copy my profile as mentioned your link
https://www.experts-exchange.com/articles/31555/Create-a-new-Microsoft-Account-User-Profile-in-Windows-10.html

But I had some issues copying the profile. One is email, I'm using outlook so I need to configure after the copying the profile. That will take more time and some application configure to use the profile so I need to assign the credentials to work with that application.

So I decided to repair the windows.

Varshini, thank you for clarifying. What you are doing is both unnecessary and will not help with your problem in copying your Outlook information. Go ahead and do the repair if you'd like to, but it won't make any difference.

If you are having issues copying Outlook info into your new profile, raise another question or even ask here and I'll be happy to help.
