Need a quick overview of WebAPI

Need a quick overview of WebAPI.

I am a .NET Full Stack developer and have supported numerous web services, but have difficulty answering interview questions about WebAPI.

Please refresh my memory.

Thanks

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

WebAPI may mean many different things in different contexts.

Generally, you'll call a Web based API to accomplish some task.

A simple example is MailGun calling a Webhook which calls your API each time a sent message changes state.

So in this case, you actually write an API (simple PHP script to log JSON payloads) + MailGun calls your API.

Another case is if you'd like to call Meetup's API to schedule an event or see how many people have currently RSVP'ed an event.

Or https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/WebAPI is the Firefox/Mozilla take on WebAPI.

To answer a WebAPI related question, context is required.

Or https://www.asp.net/web-api may be what your thinking about.

If this is the case, just review the Microsoft docs at the above URL.
