Outlook email message "This is the most recent version.."
Outlook displays a small information banner on top of all received emails, saying " This is the most recent version, but you made changes to another copy.Click here to see the other versions. The users using Outlook 2015 with Office 365 mailbox.
This message does not appear on all the emails, and when i click to view the other version, it opens the exact same email with same date and time stamp "you made changes to another copy of this item. This is the most recent version."
When you restore the version it restores the same email and the message disappears.
Could someone explain what might be going on and how we can avoid this.

It sounds as if the user had started to reply to a message and didn't click to "discard" the message. If one simply clicks on another window, the message may be saved to drafts. Check the drafts folder and you may be surprised to see many "false start" messages...messages that were saved and you never knew about them
Also, check in Outlook, View ribbon for Mail, that "View as a conversation" is unchecked.

Hi Karen, thanks I've checked the drafts and it did not have the emails in questions within them. There were other genuine draft mails.

View as conversation was the first check we made and it's not enabled.
