No internet access showing on bottom right network icon
On Windows Server 2012 R2 Virtual maching, the network symbol at the bottom right is showing with a yellow triangle with an exclamation point.
When hovering over it it says 'no internet access' yet both the network and the internet are accessible no problem..
What could be causing this and what can be done to correct it?

If you have other virtual NICs installed, they might be the ones that's throwing the warning. Disabling or removing those unused interfaces will also remove this warning.
Windows tests a DNS lookup to www.msftncsi.com and then a web request to http://www.msftncsi.com/ncsi.txt to determine that Internet access is working properly. If either of these fail, either due DNS returning an invalid address or Windows not being able to complete the HTTP request, the Network Awareness will report limited connectivity or no Internet access... even if everything else is working.
Jody, great answer. I have never looked at how Windows determine you have connectivity. I learned something new! :-)
try to ping 8.8.8.8
if this gives you positive output, then there is an issue with your DNS.
Even after giving correct DNS, check if you have applied any firewall policy for the server or IP address which is allocated.

Also run TCP/IP Reset.
Open cmd.exe with Run as Administrator
Then: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
Both will require restarting the Server and then test.
