Getting Login Prompt on Anonymous Access Enabled SharePoint Sites?

Experts,
We have few web applications in sharepoint 2013. Two of them web application we have set up  Anonymous Access. One of the web application is working fine but another one has getting Login Prompt. I have checked the web application setting  as well as site collection setting. I read some article and they mentioned about some css or script can cause the problem.

How to resolve this problem? How to identify those script or css? Is there any tool like fiddler can help us?

As you mention, files that the site is accessing may be at a location that requires authentication (user name and password). It may be css files but also may be other files.

I like to use the Chrome browser based developer tool for troubleshooting. Use the network analysis part of the tool and you will be able to see each file as it loads and that may help you find the cause of your issue.

Hope that helps...

Hi,
I have created the site collection under that web application. Site collection working as expected without authentication. But when we open direct web application , it requires the Authentication.

Can you please help me tto come up with some steps to identify problem?

Web app :            http://server:55  ( Require Auth)
Site Collection :  http://server:55/sites/Testsite   ( Does not require Auth)
From what you describe the setting in Central Admin seems to be correct. Make sure that you have anonymous access enable at the site collection level.

Good luck...
Hi,
All setting are correct in Central admin and Site collection Level. I have created new site and it's working. I have created the new Page it's working. There is a problem with custom page layout. I have couples of questions.

How do i know which page layout used for that particular page?
How do i find any any script in custom page layout which causing the problem?

Please advice
Hi,
Any Suggestion. Let me know if you want me to share page layout code too.
I would suggest you use the tool described above to see exactly what is requesting authorization. Once you know that, you can troubleshoot and correct the issue more accurately. Until then, it is just a guessing game.

Good luck...
Walter,
I am trying to use google Chrome (Network tab). It's difficult to identify since it's use log on window prompt in first place. Does not load all the files if i cancel login.
If a login prompt comes first thing, anonymous is not configured correctly, which you already know. I am sure you have double checked the settings.

When you go to the page, does any of the page display before the login prompt appears?
Walter,
We have checked the setting on web application level , Site collection level and site level too. Also checked IIS setting. We took the back up and restore to Dev site and there it's working. In production we have load balance and two front end servers. Do you think any setting require in load balance?

Also created subsite and created simple html page without Master page and that's also not working so i don't think so any problem with CSS or master page.

Any Suggestions?
Walter,
Another dev web application has problem too. When i used fiddler first it's get 401 and then 200.

Walter,
Do you think Alternate access mapping can cause the problem?
Sorry for not responding earlier.

In your original post, you mentioned that a css file or script could be causing the problem. In the screenshot, the 401 error is being caused by the SharePoint site assets library. There is usually where scripts or css would be located.

If you are using any customizations, double check them to make sure there no links or connections to other sties that are not anonymous access. Also, if you are using a custom master page, try with one of the default pages to see if that is the cause of the problem.

As far a Alternate access mappings, probably not an issue. But in SharePoint it could be anything.

Good luck...
Walter,
In original post i was trying to logon on with credential and getting 401 and then 200 for site assets. But one of the web application not working on Prod but it's working on Dev so i thought there is  notthing with css or master page. Something wrong with AAM or load balance.

I will let you know if i find anything to resolve this issue.
Walter,
We have one web application on Prod which has problem. So we did backup and restore to Dev server. So on Dev server it's working but on Prod it's not working. It have same farm feature activated. It have same Master Page and css.

What do you suggest?
