Hosted Exchange or Office 365 for calendar collaboration with differing domains
Considering moving from exchange server sbs to hosted exchange or O365 for users. What I must be able to do that we do now is for users to have the ability to share and edit other users calendars.
Is Hosted exchange better for this or O365 ; a plus would be for other users on either Exchange hosted or O365 on outside domains to edit calendars .
We have several companies with differing domains , that individuals need to see the General Managers calendars to arrange ,meetings etc .
Currently we are all under one domain; with one very tied Exchange SBS server, and it appears hosted exchange or O365 is the future .
Also we are talking about a very small group of individuals that need this ability

Thank you for commenting and I agree with your comments; actually cost is what's driving me towards both . Since I have a small group of users may 8 that use the calendars / exchange the cost per user is about $10 each and given I have 175 user with standard email boxes at $2 each doing it this way would not make me switch every user to Office 365 .
So if I can do the calendar collaborations, with exchange hosted, I'll keep the remaining users on the standard Mia,boxes . My provider said that Office 365 only is all or nothing for all users

Thank you for your time and feedback very much appreciated
The first thing to understand is that hosted exchange and "Office365 Exchange Online" or any of several other Office365 business subscriptions that include Exchange are pretty much the same thing.
I say pretty much, because hosted exchange providers often package in extras like better support, Outlook licenses, or larger mailbox limits than the O365 options, but hosted Exchange almost always costs more than O365 Exchange Online ($4/month), and runs on the same software platform, so there is no difference in the base functionality.
All that said, the total cost of ownership (TCO) of in-house Exchange versus any hosted option makes moving your email to the cloud a no-brainer. SBS was a great offering, but Microsoft killed the product line and removed the really great deal on Exchange on-premises for small businesses.
