Windows 2016 Server Corrupt Windows Files

We have windows Server 2016 we run SFC /scannow and its unable to repair components.  I also Try DISM restore health and RPC Service is not available.  Even though RPC is set to automatic and running.  I then try DISM with Source file and I get source file not found.  Looking for any help appreciated.

DISM restore health and RPC Service is not available.

So then at this point try a Repair Install

Like this: https://www.vultr.com/docs/windows-server-2016-recovery-mode

You need to make to sure you have the Server 2016 Media you used to create the server.

I think the very first thing to do is to make a complete bare metal image of your server...then you could try all the tricks to get it functional without risking of making it worse...if all fails you can always go back...
I have to ask ..what roles does this server holds...because unless it has very complex configuration maybe...just maybe would be faster to start from scratch...just format the machine and reinstall what you need...all this solutions fighting with sfc , dism, repair installations and whatever else you will get proposed rarely prove to be real "life savers" when the damage is extensive...even if you manage to get it to "operational" status later you might discover that things are not so good...in the meantime you would have wasted countless hours in repairs and reboots and fixes and more reboots and registry fiddling..usually this goes for hours and hours..

ASKER

Thanks the in place upgrade worked.
Good. Now make sure to reinstall the OS cumulative updates afterwards as these get undone in the process.
