Hi Irudyk 
The code works in removing the data from shapes that are not grouped and while it removed the actual data it leaves the old &nbsp;label in place. 
As an example i have many network devices that are made up of stacks, the stack as a whole is grouped and has the high level info while with in the group each stack member has more detailed data assigned

I see. Given that the can be many groups (and possibly groups within groups within groups and so on), you will need a function to be call recursively.

I suppose the object type should be checked first to see what type is (i.e. to see if it supports the Characters property), but the easiest way, for what your trying to accomplish, is to just by-pass the error. Try the following:

I tried this code and it resulted in my whole document becoming blank. Thank god I had saved right before applying it. I am dealing with an org chart linked to an Excel file for data. It sometimes happens that Visio creates Shape Data on its own, sometimes also by duplicating the ones that I defined. I created a macro to select all groups (belt organizational shapes are groups, not objects), I need a routine that will clear out all ShapeData (the fields, not the values!) so that I don't find myself with 30something ShapeData fields at the end of the day. Not great with code, so I wouldn't really know how to amend what you posted. Can you help? Thank you

I have created a Visio that uses external data and now want to reuse this with some adaption to new data i will be importing. Does anyone have code that would remove all shape data from all shapes within the document. It has thousand of shapes so doing by hand is not a viable option
