"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Please check your server logs.
404 means access forbidden, why it is forbidden should be in the webserver logs files.

(You will need access to the server itself, not the website, but Console access, SSH or equivalent.)
The files can be found in a multitude of location, all depending on what product is used, and how it is configured.
Start with determining the webserver in question (apache, lighttpd, nginx, ...) and then check the configuration of that server where it logs info, most lines concerned logging contain log, Log, LOG as some part of the line.
Logging can be configure as one lump or per virtual webserver.
