I  need help with Dell MD3200 controller troubleshooting. Unit has two controllers and COntroller 0 went down. I checked the status of the controller via serial port but I cannot figure out what errors mean so I need someone with thorough MD3200 experience and VMware...

Attached is text capture from serial port when starting up Controller 0...

Bad File CRC after decompression
ld(): error loading file (errno = 0x610001).

Most likely means you will have to reinstall firmware and nvsram bundle, it may be a spare but it is not a working spare. To update the firmware when it is corrupt probably has to be done over serial via vXworks, the underlying real time OS so not as easy as normal. Too late for me to look up how to do that today though.

That's kinda of what i thought. I recall doing this a year ago and I cannot figure what would have corrupted it. I am hoping to find someone to work with me on this or take care of it completely remotely. I am swamped and just do not have the time to figure it out again. I am concerned that Controller 1 may also develop the same problem. Any help you can provide would be helpful. Now if I could just find my old notes :-)...

Is the storage accessible ?

e.g. VMware ESXi still mounts the datastore, and sees the storage as a datastore ?

Yes I am able to mount the data store since Controller 1 is working. I need to find a link for instructions on how to copy the contents from the SD card in Controller 1. I did this over a year ago but I have since misplaced the instructions. The serial port capture clearly indicates a problem with the SD card so it refuses to go any further. SInce I do not remember the file format of the SD card I am uncertain as to how to copy the card from the working controller... Do you maybe have some other suggestions or maybe interested in working remotely to resolve this issue?

My current setup is an R910 with 4 cpu's and 512GB Ram running Esxi6.0 with one critical VM all contained on the R910 drives. The MD3200 and an MD1200 were being used as test labs so they are not critical.  Unfortunately now that I am ready to fully utilize the MD3200/1200 for video surveillance storage I ran into this problem.

Am I wasting my time trying this option or should I replace the controller?

it's worth a shot, at trying to replace the corrupted firmware.

Do you know how to replace the firmware manually? The Dell MDSM will not download anything since it assumes that Controller 0 is not inserted. I cannot find anything on the internet on how to manually do this? Would you be interested in working on this? Send me an email please if you are.

I am in UK south and Andrew is in UK north, doubt we can be much help as hands-on. When I was in the field it was 90% getting to site and 9% impressing the customer with a shiny suit. 1% my knowledge and ability.

Damn sight cheaper to send the module to workshop repair than to pay our airfare.

MDSM is no use to you as the slightly customised "Dell" firmware has gone tits-up.

Actually it would be enough if someone can point me in the right direction. Do you know if copying the SD card from the working controller to Controller 0 would solve my problem? I presume the error code is indicating that the SD card was trashed somehow?

BTW - remote connections via Teamviewer negates the need to go on site for most problems like this?

Thanks for your feedback

You'll not do any harm, bu duplicating/cloning the working SD card, to a new SD card, and trying it the "failed" controller.

Can't find out how to upload the firmware via VxWorks, as mentioned cloning will probably work so long as it is sector by sector using something like EaseUS. New one is a good idea, sounds like this SD card has failed twice.
