Updating Hangouts Chat via SCCM failing

We presently use Hangouts chats in our organization and installing via SCCM. It installs fine until Hangouts gets updated then when the user tries to update the software they get a message stating "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." It also asked to be pointed to InstallHangoutsChat.msi which is avalilable but the updater will not work. If I remove the software and install without SCCM the updater will work fine.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this so that Hangouts Chat will update even after being installed with SCCM?

Hi,

That sounds like the MSI is downloading, installs and then the MSI is removed from the local cache. At update it then goes to look for the  MSI again and it's gone!

To fix it check the Application and check you have added the MSI product code. This allows SCCM to take over managing the MSI (for repairs or upgrades) and use the DP as the source instead. Check the AppEnforce.log for error codes to see where it was looking. This normally happens in OSDs where the apps are saved in c:\_smstasksequence\packages\abc0001 and then the folder gets removed and the MSI is orphaned. If you are not doing OSD, then just check the path. It may simply be that the client cache was full and the MSI was shoved out.

If so, you can :
a) make the cache bigger, so less likely to drop out
b) make that package sticky in the cache

It is not anything to do with the app or the MSI :).
