Looking for a VT-X enabled Cloud Desktop

Is anyone aware of a Cloud Desktop solution that I can use to provide a VMWare Workstation 14 based Virtualisation lab environment for students?

We want to provide a cloud desktop to the student with 32GB RAM

Can Citrix XenDesktop (cloud offering) do this?

AWS Workspaces doesn't provide nested virtualisation (vt-x disabled). However, can build a solution utilising AWS i3.metal instance. Unfortunately this is not available in Australia at this point in time.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Azure support nested VMs

Oracle Ravello. - https://cloud.oracle.com/en_US/ravello

Much easier to setup than a Tenancy with Azure, and a Domain Controller!

No need for a Domain Controller! Nothing is easier that Azure!

You need a Domain Controller for AD Authentication if you want to create a Tenancy and create lots of student accounts, so Students can access a managed Lab you've created for them, or a Read Only DC linked to your current AD Domain.

If you just want to let Students create their own accounts that's simple, they can just sign up for free accounts.

With Oracle Ravello, a Lab can be designed, and you just give them Access via their personal email address. Setup in Oracle Ravello is much quicker for Student based Labs.

Azure D and E V3 seems to allow nested virtualization. Testing a few scenarios at the moment. However, Oracle's Ravello is quite appealing. Will set up a test tomorrow. Thanks, Andrew and Shaun for the suggestions

There's Azure AD and Azure DS for that

Shaun, looks like Azure only supports nested virtualization for Hyper-V only. VMWare Workstation fails to deploy 64bit guest operating systems

I would personally switch ESXi for VMware Workstation.

Definitely not. I have used KVM in Azure

Shaun, getting a strange error from VMWare Workstation 14. See attached. Hyper-V role is disabled

Try this then reboot
bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off

Shaun, this didn't help too. However, Azure v3 Ubuntu VM's work as expected. Will do more testing to try and get W10 working
