Sql 2016 permissions issue

Setting up mcafee epo server.
Tried with sql express 2016. No issues using Windows auth

Now building it for real.
Install sql 2016 std  on my server.  My own account is sys admin.   I can log on to management tools, create an odbc etc so my account works.  But when I’m installing epo.  It says I need to use an account with sys admin.    I do have sys admin.   Has been rebooted etc

If I change epo to use sql authentication.  It works fine.

What might be going on ?  I know you can use Windows auth for epo.  (Preferred for our environment )

Sql 2016 standard.
Windows 2012 r2
Mcafee docs are a bit thin on sql but I match all there criteria.

Install sql 2016 std  on my server.  My own account is sys admin.
1. Was SQL 2016 std installed with "Mixed Authentication"?
2. In case it was installed with "Mixed Authentication" - is your "My own account is sys admin" and AD login or local Windows login?

No.  It's windows auth only

My windows account added as a login.  With sysadmin role

But if I change to mixed mode and use the sa account.  The set up of epo works fine.
Kindly verify whether it is not working only with your Windows Login or for any other Windows Login as well..
If it works for some other Windows Login, then we can filter out that its a problem with your login, if not working for any Windows Login, then we can finalize that..

That's good to hear that you have sorted it now..
Kindly let us know for more assistance or else request you to close the question accordingly..
It says I need to use an account with sys admin.    I do have sys admin

Even though you have stated that your account has sysadmin rights, both lcohan and myself have pointed you in the right direction to double check whether your account has sysadmin rights or not..
If you wish to go ahead and delete the question, no issues..
Not the same thing.   I do have sysadmin.  The role within sql.

I'm talking about local admin in windows.   By adding that it all works.

We have other builds.  And my account gets put in local administrators by gpo.   So not come across this before.

Just in a staging ou.
Is that normal.  By the way to have to be in local admins.

Not sure if it's done here by luck or by design.

Thank you for replying though
