The problem is with Twitter, you have no control over the data in anyway.
If you want the data to be meaningful, you have to get full control. And the easiest way to do that, it build your own web form, and submit it to your database. Data can be better controlled further with data validation  and convenience (drop down menus for the submitter).

Ok, so google forms for the data and a facebook group?  Would that work?

If the Google Forms data, and hence later on Google Sheets/Excel is enough for you to analyze your data, sure, sounds like a plan.
