HPE Raid Controller
Hello Experts,
We have a HP ProLiant ML350 Gen9 Server running windows server 2012 standard with a Smart Array P440ar Controller. When this sever was built only a single 1TB HDD was used. We would like to add another 1TB HDD in a mirror without a large amount of down time. Is it possible to add another drive and have it mirror without having to do a full backup and restore? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you,
-GTS

Absurd to demand the write cache works and the battery backup is optimal for this process, after all it is only copying one disk to anther. However kimputer is spot on, you cannot migrate RAID levels on Smart Array controllers without working cache with HPE's disk stack and that includes the trivial RAID 0 to RAID 1 mirroring. We used to send out loan battery packs to our field engineers just to add a mirror.

I just read up on the whitepaper, it needs a FBWC in this case.
