Rename Columns in a closed workbook

I would like the most efficient way to rename column names in a closed workbook.I would like to use ado if possible.

By "column names" do you just mean the value(s) in say row 1 of a worksheet, so just data on the sheet?  Or are these Data Tables that you have created in Excel?

Sorry the values in the first cell in each column--header names
