Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Go to Control Panel, Devices and Printers.   Do you show Printers in Devices and Printers?

If so, uninstall Office 2010, restart, and install Office 2010. Patch (there were patches for Office 2010 in the last 10 days)

notepad has similar problem:

[Window Title]
Printers

[Main Instruction]
Windows can't open Add Printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine.

[OK]

i figured out how to restart the spooler. everything seems to be working now.

tnx for the help.
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
Clearing the print spooler

(Type net stop spooler then press “Enter“.
Type del %systemroot%\System32\spool\printers\* /Q then press “Enter“.
Type net start spooler then press “Enter“.
The print queue on your Windows should now be cleared.)

normally allows a printer to be installed.

So then Printers not in Device Manager as I asked was the issue.
