Upgrading from Exchange 2010 to 2013, Storage question
when upgrading exchange 2010 to 2013, can i use the same storage as my 2010 environment or do i need separate storage & migrate the data ?
Define "same storage". If you mean, "Can I use the same databases?" the answer is no. If you mean "Can I use the same SAN?" I can't think of why not.
All mail needs to be migrated to new databases, so you will basically need as much available space for the new server as you have for the existing databases. Mail migration also consumes a lot of log space, so be prepared for that. Once you retire the old server, or at least the old databases, you can get that space back from your storage. This is only helpful if you're using shared storage.
I would go straight to Exchange 2016. We did. If you're going to do the work, might as well get more current. You can't go straight to Exchange 2019, but you can go to Exchange 2016 or O365 from Exchange 2010.
