not all outlook 2016 mail not showing in exchange account

we have an exchange 2010 server and outlook 2016 clients. on one of our 2016 clients, some emails are not visible in the inbox.

if i access the account via owa, again they are not visible, but if i search for the name of one the missing emails, they all appear.

can anyone suggest how to resolve it?

i thought about removing the mailbox from outlook, deleting the ost file and adding it back again, but thought i would ask about it first.

any suggestions?

yes, that's it, the client had implemented a filter. removing it resolved the issue.
