Another possibility that is very flexible is Sync Back Pro (2brightsparks.com) . &nbsp;You can set it to schedule and back up the particular folders and files you wish. &nbsp;I use this.

Is Sync Back Pro software for allowing back up on external disk or a back up in cloud? I am using Carbonite but I still want a further backup on the external drive including a disk image which is a great facility for restoring.

It certainly allows backup to an external drive. &nbsp;you would need a secure connection to backup in the cloud. I have only used this software for external or attached drives.

Install it configure a system image creation to usb drive and let it either run immediately or on schedule.
