Hi everybody.
A client wants I implement a simple chat in order to get in touch with the visitors of his website. So I don't need to build a chat room but a one-to-one chat between the website owner and the website visitor. I'd need some guidance about hot to do it using jQuery and Php. I have found some script around the web, but, for instance, I don't understand how to manage the website owner side: It can happen that many visitors want to chat at the same moment and I can't guess how I have to manage this.

Can you give me some idea, suggestions and help?

Thank you so much

There was a recent EE thread about this + the solution selected was https://livehelperchat.com/ which I then added to my research list.

Best to use existing code, rather than attempting to develop your own from scratch.

Hi Marco,

The way I see it you have these options

First prize - implement one of the many chat plugins that are out there this is a canned chat solution that you can implement immediatly
Second prize - you can implement a simple chat interface using Firebase - there are a few samples on the net.

To do it yourself with PHP and JavaScript / jQuery is going to take a lot of effort playing with websockets and the like - unless you particularly want experience in this area I would go with one of the suggestions above.

Thanks to both for your answers. Currently I'm testing Libe Helper Chat (@Julian, is this one of the plugns you talked about in First prize?)
I'll let you know the results.

@Julian: I never thought to reinvent the wheel :D But I'd like some I can integrate with my existing Control Panel: the client shall chat with the client, fill a form, generate a alphanumeric code and give the user a link to go to the payment page. I guess my client will have to use both the chat operator frontend and my control panel passing from the former to the latter and viceversa to get the job done...
I'll take a look to Firebase also...
Cheers
