asked on

windows servers, office deployment , exchange, office 365 proplus

we had previously msi version of office 2010  installed in our desktop environment.

right now we have mailboxes in office 365 and we have only AD and ADFS SERVER ON ON-PREMISE .

We have no exchange server

i installed office 365 proplus with shared computer licension feature from office deployment tool for our users.

but my question is we have around 40 to 50 windows servers where we have application installed which are using office professional 2010

some servers are having 32 bit MS office some servers are having 64 bit office professional 2010

i am told to upgrade office 2010 on these servers. right now i believe we have KMS licensing key installed

i am not sure how office is activated on all 40 to 50 windows server which are either 2008 or 2012 servers

i am not sure how KMS works here. -

1st question

any body can through some light on how office would be working on KMS environment

2nd question

can i go gor office 365 proplus (shared computer activation) same way as i did for desktop users

or this method wont work here.if not this method then which office version should i go for upgrade

3rd question

any script where i can automate teh installation on all servers.
like install the conf. xml file on all servers.

C2r will def be how you install.  You can also script this using Powershell but you need to uninstall office 2010 first as c2r does not uninstall cleanly and you cannot just do an in place upgrade unfortunately

So how will I push configuration .xml file to all servers in that case I cannot go for Kim’s licensing which we have currently

Can you please be elaborate

Ni1 can Igo click to run version office 365 proplus on servers

Or

Can I go for upgrade through one server licensing for office 2016 or office 2019
Not sure I am understanding the last question.  you CAN install proplus on servers.  you do not need special server licensing to install.

I have .msi version installed for office 2010 on windows servers, I need to know what methods I can go for upgrade of office on the window servers

can I upgrade msi version to 2016 or 2019 , if so are there any steps

or can I install office 365 proplus if so , how can I push the configuration.xml file to 50 servers?
you need to uninstall the msi version of 2010.  the O365 version will not uninstall previous versions.  Then follow the installation instructions for deploying O365 located here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/deploy-office-365-proplus-from-a-local-source.  this walks you through the prep of creating the xml file, shares, and permissions.  it also gives you the syntax for deploying.
basicly you will perform these steps.
1) prepare shares and permissions.
2) stage uninstaller and installer files on those shares.
3) login to server you will upgrade office on
4) run uninstaller
5) run installer
6) reboot
Here is an article written by one of the other experts that provides a great framework for what you need to do.
